Description of COBI-6289 COMPIEGNE WAGON (22 June 1940)
COBI's train collection continues to grow! Another historic railway carriage in 1:35 scale is being added to the range. It is a legendary dining car from the famous Orient Express, famous for the Armistice of Compiègne. The carriage is one of the most important symbols of both world wars, but is also inextricably linked to railways, luxury and good style.
After the complete defeat of France in the 1940 campaign, the Germans found the carriage and forced the defeated to sign an armistice there. This just goes to show how much the tables have turned since the first armistice. There was no shortage of people who remembered 1918 and the humiliating armistice. On June 22, 1940, a Franco-German armistice was signed, after which the car was transported to Berlin as an extremely valuable war booty that shaped German morale and was a symbol of advantage over France. It stood as a victory monument in front of Berlin Cathedral.
Measuring almost 60 centimeters, the wagon is a completely new addition to the COBI railway series. Behind its profiled sides is a perfectly reproduced interior, which is clearly visible by removing the roof. The aforementioned sides are covered with blocks with a wooden structure and prints, which makes the car look exactly like the original.
The gold prints above the windows show the logo of the Compagnie Internationale des Wagons-Lits, the wagon number and an extensive slogan. The car has opening doors on the sides, on the end walls of the aisles and inside between the successive compartments. The interior of the car is the same as it was in June 1940.
The set includes two figures representing the two sides that signed the armistice. On the German side it is Wilhelm Keitel, on the French side it is Charles Huntziger. The car has a special block base consisting of five track elements and a profiled embankment with the name of the set. In 1944 the car was moved to the Crawinkel area, where it was placed in a specially built tunnel. It is believed that it was destroyed in an Allied air raid on the town of Ohrdruf in 1944 or burned down by the SS in 1945.
